Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats

  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

  • 1/4 cup unsalted and unsweetened almond butter

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

  • 1/4 cup water (as needed for consistency)

Tools Needed

  • Mixing bowl

  • Whisk or fork

  • Rolling pin

  • Cookie cutters (bone-shaped or desired shape)

  • Baking sheet

  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, and turmeric. Stir until well mixed.

  3. Add the almond butter and unsweetened applesauce to the dry mixture. Mix everything together until it forms a crumbly texture. If the mixture seems too dry, gradually add water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough holds together when pressed.

  4. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface or between two sheets of parchment paper. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.

  5. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes, such as bone-shaped biscuits, and place them onto the prepared baking sheet.

  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the biscuits are firm and golden brown.

  7. Allow the biscuits to cool completely on a wire rack before serving them to your furry friend.

Storage

Chef Notes

  1. Adjust the consistency of the dough by adding more water if it’s too dry or more oats if it’s too sticky. The dough should be pliable and easy to roll out.

  2. Store the dog biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. For longer storage, keep them in the refrigerator or freezer.

Watch your dog wag its tail with delight as they enjoy these homemade vegan “Cheezy Paws Delight” biscuits! Remember to consider any dietary restrictions or allergies your dog may have before serving them new treats.
